Poughkeepsie's Bardavon Presents Hudson Valley Philharmonic, Opera

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Bardavon in Poughkeepsie will present two classical music events this weekend.

The Hudson Valley Philharmonic will perform "A Toast to WMHT" at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Bardavon, 35 Market Street. 

At 1 p.m. Sunday, the Bardavon will host a screening of "Lulu" as part of The Met: Live in HD series. 

The HVP performance on Saturday will feature Bartok's Music for Strings, Percussion, Celesta; Ravel's piano concerto in G major withSean Chen, Van Cliburn Competition crystal medalist; and Sibelius' Symphony No. 1.

Ticket holders are invited to a pre-concert talk by maestro Randall Craig Fleischer and Chen one hour before the concert. Single tickets are $34 to $56 based on location and $20 for student rush tickets (day of show only).

The Sunday presentation of "Lulu" is a William Kentridge production. The inventive visual artist will stage Berg's opera about a sexually irresistible young woman whose wanton behavior causes destruction for those who fall under her spell. Marlis Petersen reprises her interpretation of the title role, with Susan Graham as the Countess Geschwitz, one of Lulu's most devoted admirers.

Tickets are $27 for adults, $25 for members and $20 for children 12 and younger.
